Who We Are

Citizens for Servant Leadership is a non-profit group of community leaders who came together to Protect Germantown. We believe Germantown is the best city in Tennessee. It’s a great place to live and we want to keep it this way.

What's Being Proposed

In 2024, a divided Board of Mayor and Aldermen voted to place a referendum on the ballot that would amend Germantown’s city charter to require a full-time mayor, despite the city already operating with a full-time professional City Administrator.

Why It Matters

We believe a full-time mayor is unnecessary. This change would be bad for our city. Our organization was formed to oppose the creation of a full-time mayor’s job in Germantown. Here are key reasons we oppose making this change:

Decisions would be based on politics as we shift from the existing professional administration model

Bureaucracy grows while the full time City Administrator is undermined

Full time mayor lacks the education and experience in municipal administration and finance

Key leaders such as Police Chief and Fire Chief are chosen based on politics, not professional qualifications

Full time mayor receives a $100,000 pay raise, plus 35% for benefits such as retirement and automobile

Germantown’s peer cities—Collierville, Franklin, and Brentwood—all have a part time mayor earning $12,000-$39,000 annually and a full time professional City Administrator

Germantown could already be considered top heavy in administration with a full time City Administrator, full time Assistant City Administrator, and full time Deputy Administrator

Pay and benefits of a full time mayor better used on police and fire fighters

Germantown doesn’t need a full-time mayor. Our city already has a professional city administration. We don’t need more bureaucracy and more politics. We need to keep city government lean and professional. Additional funds can be used to hire more first responders as needed, not more politicians.

Please vote NO on the full-time mayor referendum on May 5. Protect Germantown by keeping it the best city to live in Tennessee.
